Dr. Ron Schwenkler LPC

Clinical Director

Dr. Ron Schwenkler has been working in the mental health field for over 25 years; with his work experience progressing from child-care worker to clinical director. Ron obtained a liberal arts degree that focused on world religion and culture, as well as philosophy. He then earned a master’s in counseling education in 2005 and a master’s in clinical psychology in 2013. Ron’s passion for trauma therapy then led him to pursue a doctorate in clinical psychology in 2017. Specializing in adolescent and family treatment for the first 17 years of his career, he transitioned to specializing in trauma and performance when he started his doctoral work at the University of Denver in 2012. Ron has national and international trauma training experience and currently has a private practice that serves veterans, federal agents, victims of violence, and personal injury recovery.

Dr. Joseph Horvath, MD

Psychiatrist

Dr. Joseph Horvath is a Veteran and a Board-Certified Psychiatrist who specializes in the treatment of mental illness to include trauma, depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, OCD, and schizophrenia. He served in the Army in both the Field Artillery and Military Police. After his service, he earned his Doctorate of Osteopathic Medicine at the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his psychiatric residency at The Institute of Living in Hartford Connecticut, where he was a chief resident. He currently serves as the interim director of psychiatry at the Colorado Coalition for the Homeless. Dr Horvath enjoys teaching and believes that lasting therapeutic change comes from an individualized yet multidisciplinary approach to treatment which may include medicine, therapy, ketamine, TMS, and hard work.

Veronica Johnson, PMHNP

Psychiatric and Family Nurse Practitioner

Veronica Johnson is a dually board-certified Psychiatric and Family Nurse Practitioner, trained in psychiatric mental health at Vanderbilt University and in family practice at Western Carolina University. With over three decades of professional healthcare experience and rich lived experience, Veronica has also pursued advanced studies in functional and holistic medicine, including an 18-month fellowship in holistic psychiatry. Her practice is deeply rooted in psychospiritual principles, empowering patients to address the root causes of their mental and physical health concerns and fostering sustainable wellness and resilience. Veronica has trained with renowned leaders in the trauma recovery industry, including Bessel van Der Kolk, Peter Levine, and Pia Mellody. She incorporates a blend of trauma-healing, natural medicine, and psychospiritual practices to create individualized care plans that meet each patient’s unique needs. Through a collaborative approach to healing, Veronica guides patients in reducing their reliance on medications and reconnecting with their body’s innate capacity for self-regulation. Outside of her practice, Veronica lives on a farm, home to a lively mix of pigs, chickens, ducks, and geese. Her German Shepherd, Raven, is her loyal hiking companion, and together they find peace and inspiration in nature—a lifestyle that reflects her commitment to sustainable wellness and grounded living.

Kylie Hansen PMHNP

Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner

My passion lies in providing psychiatric care to people of all ages. As a mental health provider, I am dedicated to listening to my clients’ challenges, strengths, preferences, and values. My expertise includes treating a range of complex and specialized psychological challenges such as addiction, neurodiverse conditions (including ADHD and autism), life transitions, eating disorders, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, anxiety, sleep disturbances, and behavioral concerns. I conduct psychiatric evaluations taking into account medical history and genetics, diagnose mental illnesses, facilitate supportive services, and prescribe medications when indicated. Together, we create a realistic and meaningful treatment plan based on up-to-date evidence-based practices. In my free time, I enjoy golfing, skiing and hanging with my dog Birdie. Through an innovative approach to mental health care, I prioritize helping patients discover their strengths during our sessions, focusing not only on the challenges that brought them in but also on their positive attributes. Nick Anderson, LPC

Licensed Therapist, Veteran

Nick Anderson is a licensed professional counselor (LPC) with a unique and diverse background that has shaped his approach to therapy. Graduating from Colorado State University with a major in Human Development and Family Studies, Nick’s academic foundation laid the groundwork for his understanding of the complexities of human relationships and development. Driven by a profound desire to support individuals facing life’s challenges, Nick pursued a masters degree in counseling psychology from the University of Denver. It was during this time that his passion for therapy solidified, inspired by his own journey transitioning from a distinguished career in the military.

Sam Peterson, MBA

Director of Business Development, Combat Veteran

Sam’s career in the Army as a bomb disposal technician, which included two combat deployments to Afghanistan, and subsequent mental challenges that arose through his transition to a civilian spurned a passion for mental health treatment and the service of others. Sam has founded multiple companies in the mental health space, focused on traumatic brain injury treatment. His years of start-up experience and his background in business administration make his skills an asset to the Mind Spa team. Sam holds both a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in business administration from Regis University.
